One of my crafty groups had an outing to a paint-your-own-ceramics studio. The pieces are already made, and are blank white. I chose a rice bowl with a hole for chop sticks. I painted the base in splotches of pink and purple:
Let that dry, then put green over top:
Before the green dried, I etched. The pink and purple were hardened enough that they stayed when I scratched the designs into the green:
Magnolia supervised:
Then I painted a little plate for her, with the same idea:
The studio is glazing and firing them, I'll pick them up next weekend and see the actual FOs. The colours always change with the finishing. In the mean time, let me know a nice rice bowl recipe!

Magnolia, your roomy Pink Vegan girl is sooo thoughtful, n'est pas? I would never think to my Blythe her own platos!
that is so cool! aren't you brilliant for scratching a design into it?! it makes for a really great effect. please post a picture after they're all fired, ok?
they look fantastic.
i can't wait to see the fired pieces.
Ohhh... fun. I like the designs a lot.
I didn't set out to paint a plate for Magnolia, but when I saw the small plates I just knew I had to do one!
I didn't come up with that etching idea myself, so I can't take credit for being so brilliant with paint, but wow it was a lot of fun!
Carla, You are so multi-talented. Mom used to paint ceramics.I still have a small collection of practical kitchen items that I use regularly. She also painted figurines and I treasure those. I've never seen a rice bowl like that one. I'm anxious to see what it looks like when it's fired too.
Very pretty, I love the colors!
I love the etching work - great idea!
